Getting Started

LogMyJourney AU stores all your data privately in your browser — no account, no cloud, no sign-up required.

  1. Tap New Trip in the top-right corner and give your trip a name, start date, and odometer reading.
  2. Each time you fill up, go to the Fuel tab and log the stop.
  3. Log meals, accommodation, tolls, and other costs under Expenses.
  4. Check your running totals and efficiency at a glance in the stats bar at the top.
  5. Visit Summary at any time for charts and a full cost breakdown.
Managing Trips
Tap New Trip in the header. Enter a name (required), start date, and your current odometer reading. The trip becomes active immediately.
Use the Active Trip dropdown below the header. All tabs — Fuel, Expenses, Summary — update instantly to show the selected trip's data.
Select the trip from the dropdown, then tap the ✏️ Edit button in the trip bar. The same dialog used to create trips opens, pre-filled with the current values. You can change the name, start date, end date, start odometer, and budget. Tap Save Changes to apply. Your existing fuel stops and expenses are not affected.
Select the trip from the dropdown, then tap Delete Trip. A confirmation dialog will appear — tap Yes, Delete Trip to confirm. This permanently removes all fuel stops and expenses for that trip and cannot be undone.
Yes — create as many trips as you like. Each is completely independent. Great for separating annual road trips, interstate runs, or tracking different vehicles.
Yes — enter an optional Trip Budget ($) when creating a trip. Once set, a budget tracker appears at the top of the Trip Overview in the Summary tab. It shows a progress bar, the amount spent so far, the percentage used, and how much remains. The bar turns amber above 80% and red if you go over budget.
Yes — the End date field in the New Trip dialog is optional. Once set, it appears in the Trip Overview table in the Summary tab alongside the start date.
Logging Fuel
Odometer and Litres are required. All other fields — date, station, price per litre, cost, notes — are optional but help produce better reports.
If you enter Litres and Price per Litre, the Total Cost field is calculated automatically. You can also type the total cost directly if you know it.
Each fuel entry shows the efficiency for that segment — the distance since your last fill-up divided into the litres used. Green = under 9 L/100km, amber = 9–12, red = over 12. You can set your own target in Settings.
Each fuel entry (except the first) shows the distance driven since the previous fill-up. This tells you exactly how far you got on each tank-load and helps you plan stops on long runs.
When you have entered your Tank Capacity in Settings, each fuel entry shows an estimated range — how far a full tank would take you at that stop's efficiency. It updates at every fill-up as efficiency changes.
AdBlue (also called DEF) is a diesel exhaust fluid used by most modern diesel vehicles. To enable AdBlue logging, go to Settings → Vehicle Details and tick Vehicle uses AdBlue (DEF). An AdBlue section then appears on the Fuel tab — enter litres added and price per litre and the cost is calculated automatically. Each fuel entry that includes AdBlue shows a 💧 blue pill in the history list.
Yes — tap the Hide / Show button next to the Fuel History heading to collapse or expand the list. Useful on a small screen when you just want to log a stop quickly.
Logging Expenses
Description and Amount are required. Category and date default to your last-used values so logging is fast on the road.
The default categories are Food & Drink, Accommodation, Tolls & Fees, Activities, Miscellaneous, Camping Fees, and Maintenance. You can add your own in the Categories tab.
Yes — tap the Hide / Show button next to Expense History to collapse or expand the list, just like with fuel history.
Categories
Go to the Categories tab, type a name, pick a colour from the swatches, then tap Add Category. It will appear immediately in the expense category dropdown.
The expenses are not deleted — they remain in your trip but show as Uncategorised. You can re-categorise them at any time by tapping the ✏️ edit button on any expense entry and changing the category.
Summary Tab
Three sections: a Fuel Efficiency Chart showing L/100km for each segment between fill-ups; a Spend by Category table that includes fuel as the first row so you can see your true total travel cost; and a Trip Overview with key totals and — if you set a budget — a live budget tracker showing how much you have spent and how much remains.
Fuel is typically the largest cost on a road trip. Including it in the breakdown lets you see what percentage of your total spend went to fuel versus accommodation, food, and activities.
Efficiency is calculated from the distance between consecutive fill-ups. With only one stop there is no segment to measure. Log a second fuel stop and the chart will appear.
Export & Import
Four options are available in Settings: Full Backup (JSON) — a complete backup of all trips, fuel stops, expenses, vehicle profile and settings; Fuel Log (CSV) — the current trip's fuel stops for spreadsheet analysis; Expenses (CSV) — the current trip's expenses with category totals; Trip Summary (CSV) — one row per trip across all trips.
Go to Settings → Export and tap Download Full Backup. Save the .json file somewhere safe — your Downloads folder, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or email it to yourself. Do this regularly, especially before clearing your browser or switching devices.
On the new device, open LogMyJourney AU, go to Settings → Import, select Replace mode, then drop in your backup .json file and tap Confirm Import. All your trips, expenses, vehicle profile, and settings will be restored automatically.
Merge adds trips from the backup file alongside your existing data — useful for combining trips from two devices. Your vehicle profile is also restored if the current device has none set. Trips already on this device won't be added twice. Replace wipes all current data first and loads the backup fresh — including your vehicle profile. Always export a backup before using Replace.
Data & Privacy
Entirely in your browser's localStorage — on your device, never on a server. LogMyJourney AU has no backend, no account system, and no internet connection is needed to use it once loaded.
Yes. Clearing site data, clearing browser history (with cookies and local storage), or uninstalling the browser will delete your LogMyJourney AU data. Export a JSON backup regularly to protect your records.
Not automatically — each browser and device has its own separate storage. To sync, export a backup on one device and import it on the other using Merge or Replace mode.
Installing on Your Phone
